  *   β–Š     DISCLAIMER.     hi. i am not religious. i was raised buddhist, and my understanding of christianity begins and ends with wake up dead man and whatever research i've done afterward for this guy to say stuff that makes sense. (all of this is very unfortunate considering the character i write.)because of this, my interpretation leans heavily into the side of jud that doesn't particularly adhere to the rigidity of organized christianity. jud has always seemed genuinely free to be himself under the belief that god's love is unconditional. because of that, don't expect a stereotypical priest! this is also very much in line with the film: he drinks, he curses, and he still wrestles with flashes of physical violence despite sincerely trying to be better.that said i'm actually not all that interested in larping christianity. unless it's something others bring up first, explicit discussion of christian doctrine will probably be kept to a minimum. instead, jud's faith on this account will be expressed through themes of hope, compassion, forgiveness, and the belief that people are capable of becoming better versions of themselves. here, christ functions less as a source of theological debate and more as the narrative framework that encourages positive change in people.

  *   β–Š     ACCOUNT INFO.     a personal interpretation of a canon character from the movie wake up dead man: a knives out mystery (2025). headcanon heavy, set a year following the events of the movie. mystery/crime/whodunit-focused, with flexibility for multiverse, multiship, crossover, and oc interactions. minors and lewd-centric, please do not interact.

  *   β–Š     DNI.     basic criteria applies here; no bigotry and don't be weird. (this does not count the jokes i make at the expense of white dudes.) if i'm following someone problematic, please dm me.

  *   β–Š     DMS.     open for ic and ooc purposes. i'm always happy to meet new people and chat! i enjoy writing through dms so i don't have to worry about the character limit. i'm also happy to make an ic texting/banter chat for our muses for my low effort days!

  *   β–Š     SHIPPING.     i'm not strict about who i ship with, but i do have boundaries to keep in mind: 1.) no inappropriate age gaps, 2.) no exploitative power dynamics, 3.) no narratives around someone tending to their religious guilt from being with jud, 4.) no priest or religious kinks.

  *   β–Š     PART ONE.     jud duplenticy was seventeen years old when he was a boxer and killed a man in the ring. it was not an accident: he knowingly pushed his opponent beyond the point of breaking, and when the match ended, so did a life.after leaving boxing behind, jud spent years working a variety of manual labor jobs, including woodworking and carpentry. he lived, barely, with the weight of what he had done, carrying both his guilt and his anger while trying to understand the person he had become.eventually, jud confessed his actions to christβ€”β€”β€”β€”not because he believed faith could erase his guilt, but because he found comfort in the idea that he could still be loved despite it. that acceptance became the foundation of his path toward priesthood.jud did not join the church to hide himself or escape his history. he knows there is violence within himβ€”β€”β€”β€”a part of himself he continues to wrestle with. his strength comes from acknowledging that darkness and choosing, every day, to respond with compassion instead, and to extend that very same compassion to others.

  *   β–Š     PART TWO.     about a year into his priesthood, jud's struggles with his temper catch up with him when he punches a deacon, resulting in his exile from his previous parish. as a consequence, he is reassigned to a small church in chimney rock, new york, where he arrives as the replacement for the long-serving monsignor jefferson wicks.
already viewed with suspicion due to his violent history and occasional outbursts, jud's situation worsens when monsignor wicks is murdered and he becomes the prime suspect. working alongside detective benoit blanc, jud attempts to uncover the truth and clear his name while confronting the assumptions the townspeople make about him.though he eventually steps away from the investigation to focus on bringing people to christ, the truth surrounding wicks' death comes to light, and jud's innocence is ultimately confirmed.

  *   β–Š     PART THREE.     a year after the events in chimney rock, jud continues serving as the priest of his parish (verse dependent, jud could literally be anywhere), having slowly begun to overcome the distrust surrounding him after monsignor wicks' murder and the loyalty of wicks' followers.
he remains imperfect, stubborn, and honest about the parts of himself he struggles with. jud is not someone who escaped his past, but someone who learned how to move forward with it. he continues to choose gentleness over violence, forgiveness over bitterness, and hope over self-condemnation. jud believes people are more than the worst thing they have done, because he has spent his life trying to live that truth himself.
